Create Water-Based Facial Serums

Im so excited to present material from my new book, "Serum Making Class: Facial Serums, Aloe Vera Gel, Hand Sanitizer, Gel Eye Shadow, Gel Eyeliner, and Mascara" at the Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa, FLorida! My presentation, "Create Water-Based Facial Serums," is sponsored by the HSCG annual conference. I am so grateful and indebted to the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild for this fabulous opportunity to share the experience of making truly natural, health facial serums and mascara. Many, many thanks to Leigh O'Donnell and Sara Wagner of the Guild for their help and support.

During the May 2016 conference at the Saddlebrook Resort, the book will be available to attendees for 20% off the list price.

The new book on serum making is available from Amazon or the Soapmaking Studio: Serum Making Class Workbook. Although it is the same workbook used in the class at the Soapmaking Studio, the workbook stands alone and is easy to follow and understand without taking the class.

Bath Bomb Class on February 9

I can hardly contain my enthusiasm for teaching tomorrow's Bath Bomb Class at the Soapmaking Studio. In recent classes, attending students have been so sharp and committed to learning the artistic and scientific techniques of making cosmetics. It is truly a pleasure to find others who share my passion.

I've planned for tomorrow's Bath Bomb Class to include some bathtub fizzy tablets shaped like lacey hearts, in honor of Valentine's Day. I'll let the students decide if they prefer strawberry or rose fragrance. Thanks again to all who undertake a new adventure at the Soapmaking Studio in San Diego!

-Kerri Mixon

Bath Bomb Class

Bath Bombs, Bath Fizzies, and Bath Salts

Learn how to create active treats for the tub. Students learn the secrets of making exceptional bath bombs, bath fizzy tablets, and bath salts. While most easy recipes include the simple process of creating bath fizzies using saturated fats as a sealer to prevent reaction to air, this Bath Bomb Class includes the advanced technique necessary to create bath fizzies without oils, so they won't leave a dangerously greasy bathtub the way oils do. Students take home bath treats made in class.

Time: 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

2014 Handmade Soap Calendar - September2014 Handmade Soap Calendar - August

The “2014 Handmade Soap Calendar” project first began as a publicity offer to boost awareness of Kerri Mixon’s new book, Soapmaking Stories and Recipes for Making Soap by Hand. The new book will feature photos of soap from soapmakers around the world alongside quaint soapmaking tales and recipes. Any soapmaker was able to join the Soapmaking Studio group on Facebook and submit photos to the “Soap Book Photo Contest” album in the “Photos” section of the group. However, when not enough photos were submitted by the November 2013 deadline, the publisher canceled the publicity calendar project. Overwhelmed by the artistic qualities of the soap in the submitted photos, sixteenth-generation soapmaker Kerri Mixon decided to seek private publication of a calendar to highlight the breathtaking photos. The expense of having the calendars printed privately drove the price to $22 per calendar, so to offset the steep cost, sponsors were allowed to post ads and events in the calendar. Many thanks to all the soapmakers who submitted photos of their gorgeous soap creations and many thanks to the calendar sponsors for offsetting the expense of the printing. We find monthly soap photos very inspirational and plan to publish another calendar for 2015. Soapmaking Studio Group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/soapmakingstudio/
